In 2023 each class of Margate primary created a unique line of our Acknowledgement of Country:
~
Welcome to this school. Look up as the sun shines on the trees.
Look up at the leaves that sway in the wind.
Today we are thanking the Aboriginal People who cared for the land for so long.
We acknowledge First Nations People that heard the same bird calls as we hear today.
We acknowledge the trees, animals, sky, sea and mountains that overlook this land.
We love the space we have to run around – the trees, fresh air and nature.
Nature is special to us because the old people, the Melukerdee people lived here.
We need to respect the land we live and walk upon.
The leaves they have all sorts of patterns.
You can dig I the dirt at Margate Primary School.
We have spaces for football, soccer and cricket. The swings feel like you’re flying in the air.
We have loving, caring friends – we love to see their faces every day.
There will always be a spot for me if I’m overwhelmed or sad.
We value the people walking on this land.
From the stars above us to the land we learn and play on, this is all Merlukerdee County.
Listen to what the Elders say. They’ve been around for such a long time.
Respect the culture.
Care for country, love our land, hand in hand.
